sand to snow

it's hard to imagine that just this morning i had breakfast in pristine beach weather, only to step on a plane to be transported back home where there is currently 5 inches of snow on the ground.  there truly is no place like home, but this time it was somewhat bittersweet.  my family always travels to the warmest places in the summer and coldest places in the winter so i don't think i have ever felt a sharper contrast than this.  i sensed it as soon as i exited through the doors of the airport -- chilly, blustery wind, like a biting slap in the face.

back to reality, it howled at me.

  1. i love how much our family is embedded in your writing. it's a very strong aspect of your writing, and perhaps that aspect is stronger in you than it is in me. or maybe i haven't found the words for it yet.

also, i really love this blog, to sound like a broken record! they are brief but enjoyable bits to read, kind of addictive one click after the next.

did you write every day before this blog? it's def a great practice. i'm trying to draw and write every day, it actually makes doing "real" work more fun.

  2. i wasn't writing very much before this blog, which is why i started it! remember i used to write all the time, literally carried a notebook around with me? well, through the years it gradually stopped so i realized that i needed to get serious about writing every day (instead of like once a year for thanksgiving or when i felt like picking up a pen).
